Meditaci\u00f3n matutina:\u00a0 LA VENIDA DEL ESP\u00cdRITU SANTO AL ALMA<\/em><\/b><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El Padre Eterno no se content\u00f3 con darnos a Su Hijo Jesucristo para salvarnos con Su muerte, sino que nos ha dado tambi\u00e9n al Esp\u00edritu Santo para que habite siempre en nuestras almas y las mantenga inflamadas de Su santo amor. Por eso, cuando el Esp\u00edritu Santo descendi\u00f3 sobre los Ap\u00f3stoles, apareci\u00f3 en forma de lenguas de fuego. Este es el fuego santo que inflam\u00f3 a los Santos con el deseo de hacer grandes cosas por Dios, que les permiti\u00f3 amar a sus enemigos m\u00e1s crueles, buscar el desprecio, renunciar a todas las riquezas y honores del mundo, e incluso abrazar los tormentos y la muerte.<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n I:
<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El Esp\u00edritu Santo es ese v\u00ednculo divino que une al Padre con el Hijo; \u00c9l es Quien une nuestras almas, por el amor, con Dios. Pues, como dice San Agust\u00edn, la uni\u00f3n con Dios es efecto del amor. \"La caridad es una virtud que nos une a Dios\". Las cadenas del mundo son cadenas de muerte, pero los lazos del Esp\u00edritu Santo son lazos de vida Eterna, porque nos unen a Dios, Quien es nuestra verdadera y \u00fanica Vida.

Meditaci\u00f3n II:
<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We know by Faith that the Holy Ghost is the Love that the Eternal Father and the Eternal Word bear one another, and therefore the gift of divine charity which the Lord infuses into our souls, and which is the greatest of all gifts, is particularly attributed to the Holy Ghost, as St. Paul teaches: La caridad de Dios se derrama en nuestros corazones por el Esp\u00edritu Santo que se nos da <\/em>\u2014 (Rom. v. 5). \u00a0And our Lord Himself made this great promise: If you love Me I will pray My Father, and He will send you the Holy Spirit that He may always dwell in you. \u00a0If you love me, keep my commandments. \u00a0And I will ask my Father and he will give you another Paraclete that he may abide with you for ever. <\/em>\u2014 (John xiv. 15, 16).
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 O Holy Spirit, divine Paraclete, Father of the poor, Consoler of the afflicted, Light of hearts, Sanctifier of souls, behold me prostrate in Thy Presence. \u00a0I adore Thee with the most profound submission. \u00a0I love Thee with all my affections. \u00a0I have been so ungrateful as to offend Thee. \u00a0I ask a thousand pardons for all my sins.\u00a0 I offer Thee my heart, cold as it is, and I supplicate Thee to let a ray of Thy light and a spark of Thy fire enter therein. \u00a0Thou art a divine Spirit, fortify me against the wicked spirits: Thou art a Fire, enkindle in me the fire of Thy love: Thou art a Light, enlighten me that I may know the things of eternity: Thou art the Author of the heavenly gifts, I beseech Thee to grant them to me.\u00a0 Vivify me by Thy grace, sanctify me by Thy charity, govern me by Thy wisdom, adopt me by Thy beauty as Thy child, and save me by Thy infinite mercy. \u00a0Amen.<\/p>

Lectura espiritual:\u00a0 ACCI\u00d3N DE GRACIAS DESPU\u00c9S DE LA COMUNI\u00d3N<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 There is no prayer more agreeable to God, or more profitable to the soul, than that which is made during the Thanksgiving after Communion.<\/em> \u00a0It is the opinion of many grave writers (Suarez, Cajetan, Valentia, De Lugo, and others), that the Holy Communion, as long as the Sacramental species last, constantly produces greater and greater graces in the soul, provided the soul is then constant in disposing itself by new acts of virtue. \u00a0The Council of Florence, in the Decree of Eugenius IV to the Armenians, teaches that the Blessed Sacrament produces the same effect in the soul as material food, which, when it enters the body, produces effects according to the state in which it finds it.
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For this reason, holy souls endeavour to remain as long as possible in prayer after Communion. \u00a0The Blessed John of Avila, even when he was giving his missions, used to remain for at least two hours in prayer. \u00a0Father Balthazar Alvarez used to say, that we should set great value on the time after Communion, imagining that we hear from the lips of Jesus Christ Himself the words that He addressed to His disciples: But me you have not always with you. <\/em>\u2014 (Matt. xxvi. 11).
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is not advisable, as many do, to begin to read immediately after Communion; it is better to spend at least a short time in producing holy affections, and in conversing with Jesus, Who is then within us, and in repeating many times words of tenderness, or some fervent prayer. \u00a0Jesus Christ repeated the same prayer in the Garden three times: And he prayed the third time, saying the self-same word. <\/em>\u2014 (Matt. xxvi. 44). \u00a0In affections and prayers it is, then, that the soul should entertain itself with Jesus after Communion; for we must know that the acts formed in prayer after Communion are far more precious and meritorious in the sight of God than when made at another time; for the soul being then united with Jesus, the value of the acts is increased by the presence of Jesus. \u00a0We should, moreover, know, that after Communion Jesus Christ is more disposed to grant graces. \u00a0St. Teresa says, that after Communion Jesus places Himself in the soul as on a throne of grace, and then says: What wiliest thou that I should do for thee? <\/em>\u2014 (Mark x. 51) meaning: O soul, I am come for the express purpose of granting thee graces: ask Me what thou wilt, and as much as thou wilt, and thou shalt receive all.
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oh, what treasures of grace would you receive, devout soul, if you only entertained yourself with Jesus for an hour, or at least half-an-hour, after Conununion! \u00a0After your thanksgiving is ended, be also careful during the whole day on which you have communicated to keep yourself united by affections and prayers with Jesus, Whom you have received.<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n vespertina:\u00a0\u00a0LA PR\u00c1CTICA DEL AMOR DE JESUCRISTO\u00a0<\/i><\/strong><\/p>

X. MEDIOS PARA EVITAR LA TIBIEZA Y ALCANZAR LA PERFECCI\u00d3N<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n I:
<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El mayor mal es que, sin la oraci\u00f3n mental, no oramos en absoluto. He hablado frecuentemente en mis obras espirituales de la necesidad de la oraci\u00f3n, y m\u00e1s especialmente en un peque\u00f1o volumen titulado, Sobre la oraci\u00f3n, el gran medio de salvaci\u00f3n y perfecci\u00f3n;<\/em> y aqu\u00ed tambi\u00e9n dir\u00e9 algunas otras cosas. Bastar\u00e1, pues, citar la opini\u00f3n del Venerable Palafox, Obispo de Osma: \"\u00bfC\u00f3mo puede durar la caridad, si Dios no nos concede la perseverancia? \u00bfC\u00f3mo nos conceder\u00e1 el Se\u00f1or la perseverancia, si no se la pedimos? \u00bfY c\u00f3mo se la pediremos sino con la oraci\u00f3n? Sin oraci\u00f3n no hay comunicaci\u00f3n con Dios para la conservaci\u00f3n de la virtud.\" Y as\u00ed es, porque el que descuida la oraci\u00f3n mental ve muy poco las necesidades de su alma; conoce poco los peligros de su salvaci\u00f3n, los medios de que debe servirse para vencer las tentaciones; y as\u00ed, comprendiendo poco la necesidad de la oraci\u00f3n, deja de orar, y ciertamente se perder\u00e1.<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n II:
<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Then as regards subjects for Meditation, nothing is more useful than to meditate on the Four Last Things \u2013 Death, Judgment, Hell, and Heaven; but it is of especial advantage to meditate on Death, and to imagine ourselves expiring on the bed of sickness, with the Crucifix in our hands, and on the point of entering into eternity. \u00a0But above all, to one that loves Jesus Christ, and is anxious always to increase in His love, no consideration is more efficacious than that of the Passion of the Redeemer. \u00a0St. Francis de Sales calls Mount Calvary \u201cthe Mountain of Lovers.\u201d \u00a0All the lovers of Jesus Christ love to abide on this Mountain, where no air is breathed but the air of Divine love. \u00a0When we see a God dying for our love, and dying in order to gain our love (He loved us and delivered himself up for us),<\/em> it is impossible for us not to love Him ardently. \u00a0Such darts of love continually issue forth from the Wounds of Christ Crucified as pierce even hearts of stone. \u00a0Oh, happy he who is ever going during life to the heights of Calvary! \u00a0O blessed Mount! \u00a0O lovely Mount! \u00a0O beloved Mount! \u00a0And who shall ever leave thee more!\u00a0 A Mount that sends forth flames to enkindle the souls that perseveringly abide upon thee!<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Meditaci\u00f3n matutina:\u00a0 EL AMOR DE JES\u00daS EN EL SANT\u00cdSIMO SACRAMENTO<\/em><\/b><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Jes\u00fas, no queriendo separarse de nosotros ni siquiera en la muerte, instituy\u00f3 el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento para permanecer con nosotros en \u00e9l hasta el fin del mundo.\u00a0 He aqu\u00ed que yo estoy con vosotros todos los d\u00edas hasta la consumaci\u00f3n del mundo<\/em>. \u2014 (Matt. xxviii. 20).<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n I:
<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Nuestro amant\u00edsimo Redentor, sabiendo que deb\u00eda dejar esta tierra y volver a su Padre tan pronto como hubiera cumplido la obra de nuestra Redenci\u00f3n con su muerte, y viendo que su hora estaba pr\u00f3xima... Jes\u00fas sabiendo que hab\u00eda llegado su hora de pasar de este mundo a su padre<\/em> (John xiii. 1) \u2013 would not leave us orphans in this valley of tears.\u00a0 What, then, did He do?\u00a0 He instituted the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist, in which He left us His whole Self.\u00a0 “No tongue,” says St. Peter of Alcantara, “can express the greatness of the love of Jesus for our souls; and hence this Spouse, before He departed this life, in order that His absence might not be the occasion of our forgetting Him, left us as a memorial this Most Holy Sacrament, in which He might Himself remain with us, not being willing that any other pledge but Himself should remain to remind us of Him.”\u00a0 Jesus, therefore, not wishing to separate Himself from us by His death, instituted this Sacrament of love, in order to remain with us until the end of the world: He aqu\u00ed que yo estoy con vosotros todos los d\u00edas, hasta la consumaci\u00f3n del mundo<\/em>. \u2014 (Matt. xxviii. 20).\u00a0 Let us behold Him, therefore, as Faith teaches us, residing upon numberless altars, \u2013 shut up in so many prisons of love, that He may be found by all who seek Him.\u00a0 “But, O Lord,” says St. Bernard, “this does not become Thy majesty.”\u00a0 Jesus Christ answers: Basta que concuerde con Mi amor<\/em>.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Oh mi amado Jes\u00fas, oh Dios que nos amas con tan gran amor, \u00bfqu\u00e9 m\u00e1s puedes hacer para que nosotros, pecadores ingratos, Te amemos? \u00a1Oh, si los hombres Te amaran, todas las iglesias estar\u00edan continuamente llenas de devotos, postrados sobre sus rostros, ador\u00e1ndote y d\u00e1ndote gracias, ardiendo en Tu amor al contemplarte con los ojos de la Fe oculta en un sagrario! Pero no; los hombres, olvidados de Ti y de Tu amor, esperan en verdad a un hombre mortal del que esperan alg\u00fan bien perecedero, y te dejan a Ti, mi Se\u00f1or, abandonado y solo. \u00a1Oh, si fuera capaz de compensarte por tanta ingratitud con mi propia devoci\u00f3n!<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n II:
<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Those persons are tenderly affected who go to Jerusalem, and visit the place where the Word Incarnate was born, the hall where He was scourged, the Mount on which He died, and the Sepulchre in which He was buried; but how much greater ought our tenderness to be in visiting an altar on which Jesus is present in the Most Holy Sacrament? \u00a0The Blessed John of Avila was accustomed to say, that there was no sanctuary so excellent and holy as a church in which Jesus was sacramentally present.
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I am grieved, O my Jesus, that I have hitherto been like unto such, careless and forgetful of Thee. \u00a0But for the future I will not be one of their number. \u00a0I will devote myself to Thee and visit Thee as often as I am able. \u00a0Inflame my heart with Thy holy love, that for the future I may live only to love and to please Thee. \u00a0Thou deservest to be loved by the hearts of all. \u00a0If at one time I despised Thee, I now desire to love Thee. \u00a0My Jesus, Thou art my Love and my only Good \u2013 my God and my All<\/em>. \u00a0Most Holy Virgin Mary, obtain for me a great love of Jesus in the Holy Sacrament.
<\/strong><\/p>

Lectura espiritual:\u00a0 VISITA A JES\u00daS SACRAMENTADO<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Nuestra santa fe nos ense\u00f1a, y estamos obligados a creer que en la Hostia consagrada Jesucristo est\u00e1 realmente presente bajo la especie del pan. Pero tambi\u00e9n debemos comprender que \u00c9l est\u00e1 as\u00ed presente en nuestros altares como en un trono de amor y misericordia, para dispensar gracias y mostrarnos el amor que nos tiene, al querer habitar as\u00ed noche y d\u00eda oculto en medio de nosotros.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Es bien sabido que la Santa Iglesia instituy\u00f3 la Fiesta del Corpus Christi con una Octava solemne, y que la celebra con muchas procesiones, y frecuente Exposici\u00f3n del Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento, para que de este modo los hombres se sientan movidos a reconocer y honrar agradecidos esta amorosa presencia y morada de Jesucristo en el Sacramento del Altar, con sus devociones, acciones de gracias y el tierno afecto de sus almas. Oh Dios, \u00a1cu\u00e1ntos insultos y ultrajes no ha tenido y tiene que soportar diariamente este admirable Redentor en este Sacramento por parte de aquellos mismos hombres por cuyo amor permanece en nuestros altares! De esto, en efecto, se quej\u00f3 a su querida sierva Santa Margarita Mar\u00eda Alacoque, como autora de la Libro de devoci\u00f3n al Coraz\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas<\/em> relata. Un d\u00eda, estando ella en oraci\u00f3n ante el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento, Jes\u00fas le mostr\u00f3 su Coraz\u00f3n en un trono de llamas, coronado de espinas y rematado por una cruz, y as\u00ed se dirigi\u00f3 a ella: \"He aqu\u00ed este Coraz\u00f3n que tanto ha amado a los hombres, y que en nada se ha escatimado, y hasta ha llegado a consumirse, para mostrarles as\u00ed su amor; pero a cambio la mayor parte de los hombres s\u00f3lo me muestran ingratitud con la irreverencia, tibieza, sacrilegio y desprecio, de que me hacen objeto en este Sacramento de amor; y lo que m\u00e1s siento es que los corazones a M\u00ed consagrados me traten as\u00ed.\" Jes\u00fas expres\u00f3 entonces su deseo de que el primer viernes despu\u00e9s de la Octava del Corpus Christi se dedicase como fiesta particular en honor de su adorable Coraz\u00f3n; y que en ese d\u00eda todas las almas que le amaban se esforzasen por reparar con su homenaje y con su afecto las injurias que los hombres le han tributado en el Sacramento del Altar. Al mismo tiempo prometi\u00f3 abundantes gracias a todos los que as\u00ed le honraran presente en el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Esta Presencia nos hace comprender lo que nuestro Se\u00f1or dijo antiguamente por medio de su Profeta, que sus delicias son estar con los hijos de los hombres, pues no sabe separarse de ellos, aunque le abandonen y desprecien. Esto nos muestra tambi\u00e9n cu\u00e1n agradables al Coraz\u00f3n de Jes\u00fas son todas aquellas almas que con frecuencia le visitan y le hacen compa\u00f1\u00eda en las iglesias en las que est\u00e1 presente bajo las especies sacramentales. Dese\u00f3 Santa Mar\u00eda Magdalena de Pazzi que le visitase en el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento treinta y tres veces al d\u00eda; y en esto le obedeci\u00f3 fielmente su amada esposa, y en todas sus visitas se acercaba lo m\u00e1s posible al altar, como leemos en su Vida.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Pero que hablen todas esas almas devotas que van a menudo a hacer compa\u00f1\u00eda a Jes\u00fas Sacramentado, que nos hablen de los dones e inspiraciones que han recibido, de las llamas de amor que all\u00ed se encienden en sus almas y del Para\u00edso que disfrutan en presencia de este Dios escondido.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El siervo de Dios y gran misionero siciliano, el padre Luis La Nouza, estaba, incluso en su juventud y como laico, tan enamorado de Jesucristo, que parec\u00eda incapaz de separarse de la presencia de su amado Se\u00f1or. Tales eran las alegr\u00edas que experimentaba aqu\u00ed, que su director, para moderar su devoci\u00f3n, tuvo que ordenarle, en virtud de obediencia, que no permaneciera ante el sagrario m\u00e1s de una hora. Transcurrido el tiempo, demostr\u00f3 al obedecer que, al arrancarse del seno de Jesucristo, ten\u00eda que hacerse a s\u00ed mismo tanta violencia como un ni\u00f1o que tiene que desprenderse del pecho de su madre en el mismo momento en que se sacia con la mayor avidez. Tambi\u00e9n a San Luis le estaba prohibido permanecer en presencia del Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento, y cuando pasaba ante el Sagrario, vi\u00e9ndose atra\u00eddo, por decirlo as\u00ed, por las dulces atracciones de su Se\u00f1or, y casi obligado a permanecer all\u00ed, con el mayor esfuerzo se arrancaba, diciendo, en un exceso de tierno amor: Ap\u00e1rtate de m\u00ed, Se\u00f1or, ap\u00e1rtate.<\/em>\u00a0 All\u00ed fue tambi\u00e9n donde San Francisco Javier encontr\u00f3 refrigerio en medio de sus muchos trabajos en la India, pues empleaba sus d\u00edas en trabajar por las almas, y sus noches las pasaba en presencia del Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento.<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n vespertina:\u00a0\u00a0LA PR\u00c1CTICA DEL AMOR DE JESUCRISTO\u00a0<\/i><\/strong><\/p>

XI. MEDIOS PARA EVITAR LA TIBIEZA Y ALCANZAR LA PERFECCI\u00d3N<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n I:
<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El cuarto medio de perfecci\u00f3n, e incluso de perseverancia en la gracia de Dios, es con frecuencia para recibir la Sagrada Comuni\u00f3n<\/em>De esto hemos hablado muchas veces, y muchas veces hemos declarado que nada puede hacer un alma m\u00e1s agradable a Jesucristo que recibirle muchas veces en el Sacramento del Altar. Santa Teresa dec\u00eda: \"No hay mejor ayuda para la perfecci\u00f3n que la Comuni\u00f3n frecuente. Oh, cu\u00e1n admirablemente lleva el Se\u00f1or a tal alma a la perfecci\u00f3n!\". Y a\u00f1ade que ordinariamente se hallan m\u00e1s adelantados en la perfecci\u00f3n los que comulgan con m\u00e1s frecuencia; y que hay mayor espiritualidad en aquellas Comunidades Religiosas donde es costumbre la Comuni\u00f3n frecuente. Por esta raz\u00f3n es por lo que, como encontramos declarado en un decreto de Inocencio XI, en 1679, los Santos Padres han ensalzado tanto, y promovido tanto, la pr\u00e1ctica del frecuente e incluso de comuni\u00f3n diaria<\/em>. La Santa Comuni\u00f3n, como nos dice el Concilio de Trento, nos libra de las faltas cotidianas y nos preserva de los pecados mortales. San Bernardo afirma que la Comuni\u00f3n reprime los movimientos de la ira y de la incontinencia, que son las dos pasiones que con m\u00e1s frecuencia y violencia nos asaltan. Santo Tom\u00e1s dice que la Comuni\u00f3n vence las sugestiones del demonio. Y finalmente San Juan Cris\u00f3stomo dice que la Comuni\u00f3n derrama en nuestras almas una gran inclinaci\u00f3n a la virtud, y una prontitud para practicarla; y al mismo tiempo nos imparte una gran paz, por la cual el camino de la perfecci\u00f3n se nos hace muy dulce y f\u00e1cil. Adem\u00e1s, no hay Sacramento tan capaz de encender el amor divino en las almas como el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento de la Eucarist\u00eda, en el cual Jesucristo nos da todo su Ser, para unirnos todos a s\u00ed mismo por medio del santo amor. Por eso dec\u00eda el Beato Juan de \u00c1vila: \"Quien disuade a las almas de comulgar con frecuencia, hace obra del demonio\". S\u00ed; porque el demonio tiene un gran horror a este Sacramento, del que las almas sacan una fuerza inmensa para avanzar en el amor divino.<\/p>

<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But a proper preparation is requisite to communicate well. \u00a0The first preparation, or, in other terms, the remote preparation, to be able to go to Communion daily, or several times in the week, is, (1) To keep free from all deliberate affection to sin, that is, to sin committed, as we say, with the eyes open. \u00a0(2) The practice of much mental prayer. \u00a0(3) The mortification of the senses and of the passions. \u00a0St. Francis de Sales teaches as follows \u201cWhoever has overcome the greatest part of his bad inclinations, and has arrived at a notable degree of perfection, can communicate every day.\u201d\u00a0 The angelic Doctor, St. Thomas, says that anyone who knows by experience that his soul derives an increase of Divine love from Holy Communion, may communicate daily. \u00a0Hence Innocent XI, in the above-mentioned decree, said that the greater or less frequency of Holy Communion must rest on the decision of the Confessor, who ought to be guided in this matter by the profit which he sees accrue to the souls under his direction.\u00a0 In the next place, the proximate preparation for Communion is that which is made on the morning itself of Communion, for which there is need of at least half an hour\u2019s mental prayer.*
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To reap also more abundant fruit from Communion, we must make a good thanksgiving. \u00a0Blessed John of Avila said that the time after Communion is \u201ca time to gain treasures of graces. \u00a0St. Mary Magdalen de Pazzi used to say that no time can be more calculated to inflame us with Divine love than the time immediately after our Communion. \u00a0And St. Teresa says: \u201cAfter Communion let us be careful not to lose so good an opportunity of negotiating with God. \u00a0His Divine Majesty is not accustomed to pay badly for His lodging, if He meets with a good reception.\u201d<\/p>

Lectura espiritual: \u00a0VISITA A JES\u00daS SACRAMENTADO<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0San Juan Regis acostumbraba visitar con frecuencia a Jes\u00fas Sacramentado. A veces, sin embargo, encontrando la iglesia cerrada, satisfac\u00eda sus anhelos permaneciendo de rodillas fuera de la puerta, expuesto a la lluvia y al fr\u00edo, para, al menos a distancia, poder rendir homenaje a su Consolador oculto bajo los velos sacramentales. San Francisco de As\u00eds sol\u00eda conversar sobre todos sus trabajos y empresas con Jes\u00fas Sacramentado. Pero tierna, tal vez, m\u00e1s que todas las dem\u00e1s fue la devoci\u00f3n de San Wenceslao, duque de Bohemia, hacia el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0En el Visitas<\/em>leer\u00e9is otros ejemplos del tierno afecto con que las almas inflamadas en el amor de Dios anhelaban permanecer en presencia del Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento. Ciertamente, entre todas las devociones, exceptuando la de recibir los Sacramentos, la de adorar a Jes\u00fas Sacramentado ocupa el primer lugar. Es la m\u00e1s agradable a Dios y la m\u00e1s \u00fatil para nosotros mismos. No te niegues, pues, alma devota, a comenzar esta devoci\u00f3n; deja la conversaci\u00f3n de los hombres, y permanece cada d\u00eda, desde ahora en adelante, media hora, o al menos un cuarto de hora, en alguna iglesia, en presencia de Jesucristo bajo las especies sacramentales.\u00a0 Gustad y ved qu\u00e9 dulce es el Se\u00f1or<\/em>. Haced la prueba, y por experiencia aprender\u00e9is el gran provecho que sacar\u00e9is de esta devoci\u00f3n. Estad seguros de que el tiempo as\u00ed empleado con devoci\u00f3n ante este Divin\u00edsimo Sacramento ser\u00e1 el m\u00e1s provechoso para vosotros en la vida, y la fuente de vuestro mayor consuelo en la muerte y por la eternidad. Y debes saber que en un cuarto de hora de oraci\u00f3n en presencia del Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento, puedes ganar m\u00e1s que en todos los dem\u00e1s ejercicios espirituales del d\u00eda. Tambi\u00e9n el Beato Enrique Suso sol\u00eda decir que Jesucristo escucha las oraciones de los fieles con m\u00e1s gracia en el Sacramento del Altar que en cualquier otra parte. \u00bfY d\u00f3nde, en efecto, hicieron las almas santas sus m\u00e1s bellos prop\u00f3sitos, sino postradas ante el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento? \u00bfQui\u00e9n sabe si un d\u00eda t\u00fa tambi\u00e9n, en presencia del Sagrario, tomar\u00e1s la resoluci\u00f3n de entregarte enteramente a Dios? En este librito me siento obligado, al menos por gratitud a mi Jes\u00fas Sacramentado, a declarar que por medio de esta devoci\u00f3n de visitarle, que practiqu\u00e9, aunque con tanta tibieza y de un modo tan imperfecto, abandon\u00e9 el mundo, en el que, por desgracia, viv\u00ed hasta los veintis\u00e9is a\u00f1os. Bienaventurado ser\u00e1s t\u00fa si puedes desprenderte de \u00e9l en una \u00e9poca m\u00e1s temprana y entregarte sin reservas a ese Se\u00f1or que se ha entregado sin reservas a ti. Repito, ser\u00e1s ciertamente dichoso, no s\u00f3lo en la eternidad, sino incluso en esta vida. . . Oh, qu\u00e9 dulce gozo es permanecer con fe y tierna devoci\u00f3n ante un altar, y conversar familiarmente con Jesucristo, que est\u00e1 all\u00ed con el expreso prop\u00f3sito de escuchar y o\u00edr graciosamente a los que vienen a visitarle; pedirle perd\u00f3n por los disgustos que le hemos causado; exponerle nuestras necesidades, como un amigo a un amigo en quien pone toda su confianza; pedirle sus gracias, su amor, su Reino. XII. MEDIOS PARA EVITAR LA TIBIEZA Y ALCANZAR LA PERFECCI\u00d3N<\/p>

<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Hay ciertas almas pusil\u00e1nimes que, al ser exhortadas a comunicarse con m\u00e1s frecuencia, responden: \"Pero yo no soy digno\". Pero, hija m\u00eda, \u00bfno sabes que cuanto m\u00e1s te abstienes de comulgar, m\u00e1s indigna te haces? Porque, privado de la sagrada Comuni\u00f3n tendr\u00e1s menos fuerzas, y cometer\u00e1s muchas faltas. Pues bien, obedece a tu director y d\u00e9jate guiar por \u00e9l: las faltas no proh\u00edben la sagrada Comuni\u00f3n, cuando no se cometen con plena voluntad; adem\u00e1s, entre tus faltas la mayor es no someterte a lo que te dice tu padre espiritual.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\"Pero en mi vida pasada estuve muy mal\". Y yo te respondo, que debes saber, que el que es m\u00e1s d\u00e9bil tiene m\u00e1s necesidad del m\u00e9dico y de la medicina. Jes\u00fas en el Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento es nuestro M\u00e9dico y Medicina tambi\u00e9n. San Ambrosio dijo: \"Yo, que siempre estoy pecando, siempre tengo necesidad de medicina\". Dir\u00e9is entonces, tal vez: \"Pero mi confesor no me dice que me comunique m\u00e1s a menudo\". Si, pues, no te dice que lo hagas, p\u00eddele permiso para comunicarte m\u00e1s a menudo. Si te lo niega, obed\u00e9cele; pero mientras tanto, hazle la petici\u00f3n. \"Parecer\u00eda orgullo\". Ser\u00eda soberbia si quisieras comunicarte contra su voluntad, pero no cuando pides su consentimiento con humildad.<\/p>

<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El amor de Jes\u00fas no se content\u00f3 con derramar su Sangre y entregar su vida por nosotros en medio de ignominias y tormentos, para manifestarnos su afecto; sino que, adem\u00e1s, para obligarnos a\u00fan m\u00e1s a amarle, en la noche anterior a su muerte, quiso dejarnos todo su Ser para que fuera nuestro Alimento en la Sagrada Eucarist\u00eda. Dios es omnipotente, pero, habi\u00e9ndose dado a nosotros en este Sacramento, no tiene nada m\u00e1s que darnos. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Y ahora, en cuanto a la Visita a la Sant\u00edsima Virgen, es bien conocida y com\u00fanmente aceptada la opini\u00f3n de San Bernardo: a saber, que Dios no dispensa ninguna gracia de otro modo que por las manos de Mar\u00eda: \"Dios quiere que no recibamos nada que no pase por las manos de Mar\u00eda\". De ah\u00ed que el Padre Su\u00e1rez declare que es ahora el sentir de la Iglesia universal, que la intercesi\u00f3n de Mar\u00eda no s\u00f3lo es \u00fatil, sino incluso necesaria para obtener las gracias. Y podemos observar que la Iglesia nos da fuertes fundamentos para esta creencia, aplicando las palabras de la Sagrada Escritura a Mar\u00eda, y haci\u00e9ndole decir: En m\u00ed est\u00e1 toda esperanza de vida y de virtud. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Cuida, pues, t\u00fa tambi\u00e9n de unir siempre a tu visita diaria al Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento una visita a la sant\u00edsima Virgen Mar\u00eda en alguna iglesia, o al menos ante una devota imagen suya en tu propia casa. San Andr\u00e9s de Creta dice que Mar\u00eda siempre concede grandes dones a quienes le ofrecen el m\u00e1s m\u00ednimo acto de homenaje.<\/p>

Comuni\u00f3n espiritual durante la visita<\/em><\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Como se sugiere en las siguientes visitas al Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento para hacer un Comuni\u00f3n espiritual<\/em> despu\u00e9s de cada una, ser\u00e1 bueno explicar lo que es una Comuni\u00f3n Espiritual, y las grandes ventajas de hacerla. A Comuni\u00f3n espiritual<\/em>Seg\u00fan Santo Tom\u00e1s, consiste en el deseo ardiente de recibir a Jes\u00fas Sacramentado y en abrazarlo amorosamente como si lo hubi\u00e9ramos recibido.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Cu\u00e1n gratas son a Dios las Comuniones Espirituales y cu\u00e1ntas gracias concede por su medio, se lo manifest\u00f3 el mismo Se\u00f1or a Sor Paula Maresca, fundadora del Convento de Santa Catalina de Siena, en N\u00e1poles. Se cuenta en su Vida que el Se\u00f1or le mostr\u00f3 dos vasos preciosos, uno de oro y otro de plata. Luego le dijo que en el vaso de oro conservaba sus Comuniones Sacramentales, y en el de plata sus Comuniones espirituales<\/em>. Tambi\u00e9n dijo a la beata Juana de la Cruz que cada vez que se comunicaba espiritualmente recib\u00eda una gracia semejante en especie a la que recib\u00eda cuando se comunicaba realmente. Pero para nosotros bastar\u00e1 saber que el santo Concilio de Trento alaba grandemente Comuni\u00f3n espiritual<\/em>y anima a los fieles a practicarla.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0De ah\u00ed que las almas devotas suelan recurrir con frecuencia a este santo ejercicio de Comuni\u00f3n espiritual<\/em>. La Beata \u00c1gueda de la Cruz lo hac\u00eda doscientas veces al d\u00eda. El Padre Pedro Fabro, primer compa\u00f1ero de San Ignacio, sol\u00eda decir que era de la mayor utilidad hacer Comuniones Espirituales, para recibir bien la Comuni\u00f3n Sacramental.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Se exhorta, pues, a todos los que desean progresar en el amor de Jesucristo, a hacer la Comuni\u00f3n espiritual al menos una vez en cada visita que hagan al Sant\u00edsimo Sacramento, y una vez en cada Misa que oigan. Mejor a\u00fan en estas ocasiones repetir las Comuniones Espirituales tres veces; es decir, al principio, a la mitad y al final. Esta devoci\u00f3n es mucho m\u00e1s provechosa de lo que algunos suponen, y al mismo tiempo nada puede ser m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil de practicar. La susodicha Juana de la Cruz sol\u00eda decir que se puede hacer una Comuni\u00f3n Espiritual sin que nadie lo note, sin estar en ayunas, sin permiso de nuestro director, y que podemos hacerla cuando nos plazca; un acto de amor lo hace todo.<\/p>

XIII. MEDIOS PARA EVITAR LA TIBIEZA Y ALCANZAR LA PERFECCI\u00d3N<\/p>

Meditaci\u00f3n I:
<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a1Ay, Dios m\u00edo, cu\u00e1ntas almas, por no aplicarse a llevar una vida de mayor recogimiento y m\u00e1s desprendimiento de las cosas terrenas, se preocupan de no comulgar! Y \u00e9sta es la verdadera causa de que no quieran comulgar con frecuencia. Saben muy bien que el deseo de aparentar siempre, de vestirse con vanidad, de ser aficionadas a comer y beber agradablemente, a las comodidades corporales, a las conversaciones y diversiones, no armoniza con la Comuni\u00f3n frecuente; saben que se requiere m\u00e1s oraci\u00f3n, m\u00e1s mortificaci\u00f3n, tanto interna como externa, m\u00e1s recogimiento; y por esto se averg\u00fcenzan de acercarse con m\u00e1s frecuencia al altar. Sin duda, tales almas hacen bien en abstenerse de la Comuni\u00f3n frecuente mientras se encuentren en ese infeliz estado de tibieza; pero quienquiera que est\u00e9 llamado a una vida m\u00e1s perfecta debe dejar de lado esta tibieza, si no quiere arriesgar grandemente su salvaci\u00f3n eterna.<\/p>

<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0El quinto y m\u00e1s necesario medio para la vida espiritual, y para obtener el amor de Jesucristo es oraci\u00f3n de petici\u00f3n<\/em>.\u00a0 In the first place, I say that by this means God convinces us of the great love He bears us.\u00a0 What greater proof of affection can a person give to a friend than to say to him, \u201cMy friend, ask anything you like of me, and I will give it to you?\u201d\u00a0 Now that is precisely what our Lord says to us: Pedid, y se os dar\u00e1; buscad, y hallar\u00e9is<\/em>. \u2014 (Luke xi. 9).\u00a0 Wherefore prayer is called all-powerful with God to obtain every blessing: \u201cPrayer, though it is only one, can effect all things,\u201d as Theodoret says; whoever prays obtains from God whatever he chooses.\u00a0 The words of David are beautiful: Bendito sea Dios que no ha rechazado mi oraci\u00f3n ni su misericordia de m\u00ed.<\/em>. \u2014 (Ps. lxv. 20).\u00a0 Commenting on this passage, St. Augustine says, \u201cAs long as thou seest thyself not failing in prayer, be assured that the Divine mercy will not fail thee either.\u201d And St. John Chrysostom: \u201cWe always obtain, even while we are still praying.\u201d When we pray to God, He grants us the grace we ask for, even before we have ended our petition.\u00a0 If, then, we are poor, let us blame only ourselves, since we are poor merely because we wish to be poor, and so we are undeserving of pity.\u00a0 What sympathy can there be for a beggar, who, having a very rich master, and one most desirous to provide him with everything, if he will only ask for it, nevertheless chooses still to continue in his poverty rather than ask for what he wants?\u00a0 He aqu\u00ed<\/em>dice el Ap\u00f3stol, Dios nuestro, rico para todos los que le invocan<\/em>. \u2014 (Rom. x. 12).<\/p>

<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 St. Dionysius says, that the principal effect of love is to tend to union.\u00a0 For this end did Jesus institute the Holy Communion, \u2013 to unite Himself entirely with our souls.\u00a0 He had given Himself to us as our Teacher, our Model, and Victim; it remained to Him to give Himself to us as our Food \u2013 to become one with us, as food becomes the same with the person who eats it; and this He did by instituting the Holy Sacrament of love.\u00a0 \u201cThe last degree of His love,\u201d says St. Bernardine of Sienna, \u201cwas His giving Himself to us to be our Food; because He gave Himself to be completely united with us, as food is united with him who takes it.\u201d Thus Jesus Christ was not satisfied with uniting Himself to our human nature, He was desirous by this Sacrament to devise a means of uniting Himself to each one of us individually, so as to become wholly his who should receive Him.\u00a0 Hence St. Francis de Sales says: \u201cIn no one action can our Blessed Saviour be considered more tender or more loving than in this, in which He, as it were, annihilates Himself, and reduces Himself to Food to penetrate to the hearts of all the faithful.\u201d

XV. MEDIOS PARA EVITAR LA TIBIEZA Y ALCANZAR LA PERFECCI\u00d3N<\/p>

<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Los santos Padres dicen que la oraci\u00f3n es necesaria para nosotros, no s\u00f3lo como una necesidad de precepto<\/em> (de modo que los divinos dicen que quien descuida durante un mes encomendar a Dios el asunto de su salvaci\u00f3n no est\u00e1 exento de pecado mortal), sino tambi\u00e9n como un necesidad de medios<\/em>, which is as much as to say, that whoever does not pray cannot possibly be saved.\u00a0 And the reason of it is, in short, because we cannot obtain eternal salvation without the help of Divine grace, and this grace Almighty God only accords to those who pray.\u00a0 And because temptations, and the dangers of falling into God’s displeasure, continually beset us, so ought our prayers to be continual.\u00a0 Hence St. Thomas declares that continual prayer is necessary for a man to save himself: \u201cUnceasing prayer is necessary to man that he may enter Heaven.\u201d And Jesus Christ Himself had already said the same thing: Debemos rezar siempre, y no desfallecer<\/em>. \u2014 (Luke xviii. 1).\u00a0 And afterwards the Apostle: Rezar sin cesar<\/em>. \u2014 (Thess. v. 17).\u00a0 During the interval in which we shall cease to pray, the devil will conquer us.\u00a0 And though the grace of perseverance can in no wise be merited by us, as the Council of Trent teaches us, nevertheless St. Augustine says, \u201cthat in a certain sense we can merit it by prayer.\u201d The Lord wishes to dispense His grace to us, but He will be entreated first; nay more, as St. Gregory remarks, He wills to be importuned, and in a manner constrained by our prayers: \u201cGod wishes to be prayed to, \u2013 He wishes to be compelled \u2013 He wishes to be, as it were, vanquished by our importunity.\u201d<\/p>

<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To allure us to receive Him with affection and love, He promises Heaven to us: If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever. <\/em>\u2014 (John vi. 52). \u00a0And if we refuse to receive Him He threatens us with death: Except you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood you shall not have life in you. <\/em>\u2014 (John vi. 54). \u00a0These invitations, promises, and threats, all arise from the desire of Jesus Christ to be united with us in the Holy Communion through His love for us. \u00a0Our Lord said to St. Mechtilde that the bee does not take the honey with more eagerness of delight, than He enters the souls that desire Him. \u00a0Jesus because He loves us, desires that we should love Him; and because He desires us He would have us desire Him: \u201cGod thirsts to be thirsted after,\u201d says St. Gregory.\u00a0 Happy the soul that approaches the Holy Communion with a great desire of being united to Jesus Christ.

<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Y tengamos mucha fe en la oraci\u00f3n. Dios ha prometido escuchar al que ora: Pide y recibir\u00e1s<\/em>. \u00bfC\u00f3mo podemos dudar, dice San Agust\u00edn, puesto que Dios se ha obligado por promesa expresa, y no puede dejar de concedernos los favores que le pedimos? \"Al prometer se ha hecho deudor nuestro\". Al encomendarnos a Dios, debemos tener una confianza segura en que Dios nos escucha, y entonces obtendremos lo que queramos. He aqu\u00ed lo que dice Jesucristo: Todo lo que pidiereis orando, creed que lo recibir\u00e9is, y os vendr\u00e1.<\/em>. \u2014 (Mark xi. 24).
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\"Pero\", dir\u00e1 alguno, \"soy un pecador y no merezco ser escuchado\". Pero Jesucristo dice: Todo el que pide, recibe<\/em>. \u2014 (Luke xi. 10).\u00a0 Every one, be he just or be he a sinner.\u00a0 St. Thomas teaches us that the efficacy of prayer to obtain grace does not depend on our merits, but on the mercy of God, Who has promised to hear everyone who prays to Him.<\/p>

<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And our Redeemer, in order to remove from us all fear when we pray, said: Amen, amen, I say to you, if you shall ask the Father anything in my name he will give it you. \u2014 <\/em>(John xvi. 23). \u00a0As though He would say: Sinners, you have no merits of your own to obtain graces, wherefore act in this manner; when you would obtain graces, ask them of My Father in My Name; that is, through My merits and through My love; and then ask as many as you choose, and they shall be granted to you. \u00a0But let us mark well these words, \u201cIn my Name,\u201d which signify (as St. Thomas explains it), \u201cin the Name of the Saviour\u201d; or, in other words, that the graces which we ask must be graces which regard our eternal salvation; and consequently we must remark that the promise does not regard temporal favours; these our Lord grants when they are profitable for our eternal welfare; if they would prove otherwise, He refuses them.\u00a0 So that we should always ask for temporal favours on condition that they will benefit our soul. \u00a0But should they be spiritual graces, then they require no condition; but with confidence, and a sure confidence, we should say: \u201cEternal Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, deliver me from this temptation: grant me perseverance, grant me. \u00a0Thy love, grant me Heaven.\u201d \u00a0We can likewise ask these graces of Jesus Christ in His own Name; that is, by His merits, since we have His promise also to this effect: If you shall ask me anything in my name, that I will do. \u2014 <\/em>(John xiv. 14). \u00a0And whilst we pray to God, let us not forget to recommend ourselves at the same time to Mary, the dispenser of graces. \u00a0St. Bernard says that it is Almighty God Who bestows the graces; but He bestows them through the hands of Mary: \u201cLet us seek grace, and let us seek it through Mary; because what she seeks she finds, and cannot be refused.\u201d \u00a0If Mary prays for us, we are safe; for every petition of Mary is heard, and she can never meet with a repulse.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
