Morning Meditation I: The Advantages of Tribulations<\/b>
     By tribulations we atone for the sins we have committed much better than by voluntary works of penance. \u201cBe assured,\u201d says St. Augustine, \u201cthat God is a physician, and that tribulation is a salutary medicine.\u201d Oh, how great is the efficacy of tribulation in healing the wounds caused by our sins! Hence the same Saint rebukes the sinner who complains of God for sending him tribulations. \u201cWhy,\u201d he says, \u201cdo you complain? What you suffer is a remedy, not a punishment.\u201d Job called those men happy whom God corrects by tribulation; because He heals them with the very hands by which He strikes and wounds them. Bienaventurado el hombre a quien Dios corrige<\/i> . . . Pues hiere y cura. \u00c9l hiere, y su mano curar\u00e1<\/i>. - (Job v., 17). De ah\u00ed que San Pablo se gloriase en sus tribulaciones: Nos gloriamos tambi\u00e9n en las tribulaciones<\/i>. - (Rom. v. 3).
     Las tribulaciones nos permiten adquirir grandes m\u00e9ritos ante Dios, al darnos ocasi\u00f3n de ejercitar las virtudes de la humildad, de la paciencia y de la resignaci\u00f3n a la voluntad divina. El Beato Juan de \u00c1vila dec\u00eda que uno Bendito sea Dios<\/i> en la adversidad vale m\u00e1s que mil en la prosperidad. \"Quitad\", dice San Ambrosio, \"las contiendas de los M\u00e1rtires, y les habr\u00e9is quitado sus coronas\". \u00a1Oh, qu\u00e9 tesoro de m\u00e9ritos se adquiere soportando pacientemente los insultos, la pobreza y la enfermedad! Los insultos de los hombres eran el gran objeto de los deseos de los Santos, que buscaban ser despreciados por amor a Jesucristo, y asemejarse as\u00ed a \u00c9l.
     Jes\u00fas m\u00edo, hasta ahora te he ofendido gravemente resisti\u00e9ndome a tu santa voluntad. Esto me produce mayor dolor que si hubiera sufrido cualquier otro mal. Me arrepiento de ello y lo lamento de todo coraz\u00f3n. Merezco el castigo: No lo rechazo: Lo acepto. Pres\u00e9rvame s\u00f3lo del castigo de ser privado de Tu amor, y luego haz de m\u00ed lo que Te plazca. Te amo, mi querido Redentor. Te amo, Dios m\u00edo.
