SEPTEMBER 2025 CALENDAR

The September calendar has been posted.  We encourage you to notice and appreciate the richness of the meaningful liturgy of the pre-1955 liturgical celebrations, its clarity and encompassing way of presenting –through the hands of the priest– our prayers to the Lord, in unity with all the traditional intentions and orations the Holy Mother Church instructs us to recall in all Masses of the month.  The pre-Bugnini liturgy is, without doubt, the best and most coherent way of defending our traditional Catholic faith in the present time.

The month of September, dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, contains several days wherein we honor most holy Mary in a special way: the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, on the 8th, with a simple octave that ends on the Feast of the Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin on the 15th.  The Most Holy Name of Mary occurs on the 12th and Our Lady of Ransom on the 24th.  The liturgy for two of the Saturdays of this month – the 6th and the 13th – is the Mass of Our Lady on Saturday.  Although these days are not reflected in the calendar, on the 13th we recall the fifth apparition of Our Lady at Fatima in 1917, and on the 19th, the apparition of Our Lady at La Salette in 1846.

This year, the Sunday liturgy is superseded by a higher-ranked Mass on two occasions: September 14, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and on September 21, the Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist.  While the Exaltation of the Holy Cross has the rank of Double Major, and feasts of this rank are normally commemorated when they fall on a Sunday, this is a feast of Our Lord and therefore has a higher precedence than a Lesser Sunday.  The Sunday liturgy is commemorated on these two dates.

The fall Ember Days are celebrated on the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday following the Exaltation of the Holy Cross: September 17, 19, and 20.

Finally, during this month, the Society of the Most Holy Redeemer remembers two holy souls: Bl. Maria Celeste Crostarosa, foundress of the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer (known as the Redemptoristines), whose feast day is September 11, and Bl. Kaspar Stanggassinger, C.Ss.R., on September 26.
