The August calendar has been posted. We encourage you to notice and appreciate the richness of the meaningful liturgy of the pre-1955 liturgical celebrations, its clarity and encompassing way of presenting –through the hands of the priest– our prayers to the Lord, in unity with all the traditional intentions and orations the Holy Mother Church instructs us to recall in all Masses of the month. The pre-Bugnini liturgy is, without doubt, the best and most coherent way of defending our traditional Catholic faith in the present time.
August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and contains several Marian Feast Days, including the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the 15th and the Immaculate Heart of Mary on the 22nd, the Octave Day of the Assumption. The vigil of the Assumption, on the 14th, is a day of fasting and abstaining from meat. We celebrate the Dedication of the Church of Our Lady of the Snows on August 5, and remember the 4th apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, which should have taken place on the 13th of the month but was delayed to the 19th because of the kidnapping of the three young seers. Also, the feast of St. Joachim, the Father of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is celebrated on Sunday, the 16th of August.
Very important to the Society of the Most Holy Redeemer is the Feast Day of the Society’s holy Founder and devout client of the Blessed Virgin Mary – St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori – on August 2.
