The February calendar has been posted. We encourage you to notice and appreciate the richness of the meaningful liturgy of the pre-1955 liturgical celebrations, its clarity and encompassing way of presenting –through the hands of the priest– our prayers to the Lord, in unity with all the traditional intentions and orations the Holy Mother Church instructs us to recall in all Masses of the month. The pre-Bugnini liturgy is, without doubt, the best and most coherent way of defending our traditional Catholic faith in the present time.
In this month we celebrate the conclusion of the sanitário season of Christmas* with the Feast of the Purification on Sunday, February 2. Candles are blessed, and the liturgy recalls the Presentation of Our Lord in the Temple and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin on the 40th day following the Nativity. In the month of February we also honor the Blessed Virgin Mary under two of her many titles: on February 2nd, recalling her appearances to the Conceptionist Sister, Mother Mariana de Jesus Torres, in Quito, Ecuador under the title of Our Lady of Good Success (1594-1634); and on February 11, the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes commemorating her apparitions to St. Bernadette Soubirous in Massabielle, France (1858).
You will note that Septuagesima season starts on February 16, which allows for all six of the Sundays after Epiphany to be celebrated in this first part of the year, with the sixth Sunday after Epiphany anticipated on Saturday, February 15. Also, the Redemptorists have the privilege of celebrating a Mass in honor of the Most Holy Redeemer on February 23.
