Morning Meditation I: The Advantages of Tribulations<\/b>
     By tribulations we atone for the sins we have committed much better than by voluntary works of penance. \u201cBe assured,\u201d says St. Augustine, \u201cthat God is a physician, and that tribulation is a salutary medicine.\u201d Oh, how great is the efficacy of tribulation in healing the wounds caused by our sins! Hence the same Saint rebukes the sinner who complains of God for sending him tribulations. \u201cWhy,\u201d he says, \u201cdo you complain? What you suffer is a remedy, not a punishment.\u201d Job called those men happy whom God corrects by tribulation; because He heals them with the very hands by which He strikes and wounds them. Bem-aventurado o homem a quem Deus corrige<\/i> . . . Porque ele fere e cura. Ele fere, e a sua m\u00e3o cura<\/i>. - (J\u00f3 v., 17). Por isso, S\u00e3o Paulo se gloriava em suas tribula\u00e7\u00f5es: N\u00f3s nos gloriamos tamb\u00e9m nas tribula\u00e7\u00f5es<\/i>. - (Rom. v. 3).
     As tribula\u00e7\u00f5es nos permitem adquirir grandes m\u00e9ritos diante de Deus, dando-nos a oportunidade de exercitar as virtudes da humildade, da paci\u00eancia e da resigna\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 vontade divina. O Bem-aventurado Jo\u00e3o de \u00c1vila costumava dizer que um Bendito seja Deus<\/i> na adversidade vale mais do que mil na prosperidade. \"Tire\", diz Santo Ambr\u00f3sio, \"as competi\u00e7\u00f5es dos m\u00e1rtires, e voc\u00ea ter\u00e1 tirado suas coroas\". Oh, que tesouro de m\u00e9rito \u00e9 adquirido ao suportar pacientemente os insultos, a pobreza e a doen\u00e7a! Os insultos dos homens eram o grande objetivo dos desejos dos santos, que buscavam ser desprezados por amor a Jesus Cristo e, assim, tornarem-se semelhantes a Ele.
     Meu Jesus, at\u00e9 agora eu Te ofendi gravemente ao resistir \u00e0 Tua santa vontade. Isso me causa mais dor do que se eu tivesse sofrido qualquer outro mal. Eu me arrependo e me arrependo de todo o cora\u00e7\u00e3o. Mere\u00e7o o castigo: N\u00e3o o recuso: Eu o aceito. Preserve-me apenas do castigo de ser privado de Seu amor, e ent\u00e3o fa\u00e7a comigo o que quiser. Eu Te amo, meu querido Redentor! Eu Te amo, meu Deus!
