Eu poderia ter me tornado um grande santo! E se eu tivesse obedecido ao chamado de Deus, certamente teria me tornado um santo, e agora estou condenado sem rem\u00e9dio! Fa\u00e7a sua escolha, pois Deus a deixa em suas pr\u00f3prias m\u00e3os: ser um grande rei no Para\u00edso ou um r\u00e9probo no inferno.<\/p><p><b>Medita\u00e7\u00e3o I<\/b>: <br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0O remorso por ter perdido, por culpa pr\u00f3pria, algum grande bem, ou por ter sido a causa volunt\u00e1ria de algum grande mal para n\u00f3s mesmos, \u00e9 t\u00e3o grande que mesmo nesta vida \u00e9 um tormento insuport\u00e1vel. Mas que tormento sentir\u00e1 aquele jovem, chamado pelo singular favor de Deus para o estado religioso, no inferno, quando perceber que, se tivesse obedecido a Deus, teria alcan\u00e7ado um lugar elevado no Para\u00edso, e se vir, no entanto, confinado naquela pris\u00e3o de tormentos, sem esperan\u00e7a de rem\u00e9dio para essa sua ru\u00edna eterna! <em>Seu verme n\u00e3o morre<\/em>. - (Marcos ix., 43).<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Esse ser\u00e1 aquele verme que, vivendo sempre, sempre roer\u00e1 seu cora\u00e7\u00e3o com remorso cont\u00ednuo. Tolo que eu era! dir\u00e1 ele, eu poderia ter me tornado um grande santo. E se eu tivesse obedecido, certamente teria me tornado um santo; e agora estou condenado sem rem\u00e9dio.<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Homem infeliz! Para seu maior tormento, no Dia do Ju\u00edzo, ele ver\u00e1 e reconhecer\u00e1, \u00e0 direita de Deus e coroados como santos, aqueles que seguiram sua voca\u00e7\u00e3o e, deixando o mundo, retiraram-se para a Casa de Deus, para a qual ele tamb\u00e9m havia sido chamado. Ele se ver\u00e1 separado da companhia dos Aben\u00e7oados e colocado no meio da inumer\u00e1vel e miser\u00e1vel tripula\u00e7\u00e3o dos condenados, por sua desobedi\u00eancia \u00e0 voz de Deus.<br \/>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0N\u00e3o, meu Deus, n\u00e3o me permita desobedecer a Ti e ser infiel. Vejo Tua bondade e agrade\u00e7o-Te porque, em vez de me afastar de Tua face e me banir para o inferno, como tantas vezes mereci, Tu me convidaste a tornar-me um santo e me preparaste um lugar elevado no Para\u00edso. Vejo que mereceria um tormento duplo, caso n\u00e3o correspondesse a essa gra\u00e7a - uma gra\u00e7a que n\u00e3o \u00e9 concedida a todos. Eu Te obedecerei. Eis que sou Teu, e sempre serei Teu. Aceito com alegria todas as dores e desconfortos da vida religiosa, para a qual Tu me convidas. E o que s\u00e3o essas dores em compara\u00e7\u00e3o com as dores eternas que mereci? Eu estava completamente perdido por causa de meus pecados; agora me entrego inteiramente a Ti.
